So you are thinking of getting a Schnauzer puppy?
Great! - you couldn't choose a better breed but this is the time to make sure that the Schnauzer is the right breed for you is before you bring him home. If you and your dog are going to be a good match speak to breeders, Breed Clubs, and generally find out as much as you can about the breed. You can also contact the Kennel Club for a list of 'Accredited Breeders' - but I advise you still 'check' up on the breeders as much as you can. The best advice I can give is go to a Dog Show if possible, there are several Championship shows around the country so you should find one near to you (see calendar) and go find the owners and breeders and talk to them. Not all Schnauzers are the same....
SCHNAUZER BREED CLUBS
Here are some features of my favourite breed:- The Schnauzer is an active dog with plenty of energy.
- He is extremely intelligent and needs attention and activity to keep him stimulated/occupied
- He is very strong willed and as such you MUST make sure he knows that YOU are the boss otherwise he WILL take over.
- He truely believes he is part of the family and is good with children, makes a good house-dog and guard and has the intelligence and willingness to please
- He is an attractive dog, medium in height at up to 19" and is either pepper and salt or pure black.
- The coat does need a good bit of attention to give him his typical look of short body coat and neat leg and head furnishings, but the result is stunning and really shows off his balanced shape. (see grooming)
I don't have any puppies planned for this year but hopefully next year there will be some Kaiteriteri puppies... If you are looking for a puppy or if you just want advice please contact me and if I know of any litters then I will pass your details on.
